Founded in 1942 and family owned for over 50 years! Popular hot spot with friendly and welcoming staff. The store is well curated, abundantly packed with an eclectic assortment of fun and local items to include clothing and jewellery. The Diner serving New Mexican staples has been open since the 1960’s. The waitstaff was friendly, helpful and clearly enjoyed their job. We had the Duran’s Style Huevos Rancheros with a buttered tortilla. The large portion consists of fluffy, boiled potatoes, two eggs cooked to your liking smothered in your choice of chile along with beans & topped with melted cheese. The green chile is flavorful with a bit of heat, you never can go wrong. The red chile was as bright as canned tomato sauce yet watered down and flavourless. The beans although cooked tender were consistent with recent reviews as watery. The fresh, flour tortillas are rolled on the thicker side and as large as a dinner plate. With a couple tweaks the meal would have been more enjoyable yet visiting Duran’s was a fun experience overall.
Great place. Excellent service. Super cool place to shop. Nice things. Good food. We loved it here and will definitely be back! We tried the stuffed sopapillas and frito pie. Lots of free parking. Kid friendly! No outdoor seating.
What an interesting place! You have to walk through the pharmacy/clothing, card, giftware section to get to the restaurant. If you have to wait for a table, you can shop in their well curated store. The women’s clothing is fabulous. But back to the food. It’s New Mexican comfort food and we loved it. The staff are friendly and efficient and the food comes out quickly once you place your order. We will return to try more dishes.
One of the best green chile cheese burgers in ABQ. I’m definitely going back for another… and I want to try that frito pie.
I hadn’t been to Durans in a long time, and I remember the food being really good. Unfortunately, I feel like it’s the common case of a NM institution getting increasingly expensive while food quality drops. The good was the service. The servers were kind, attentive, and my coffee/water stayed full throughout the meal. My wife and I I both ordered Huevos Rancheros and both were bland. Basically, pinto beans, unseasoned mash potatoes, egg, and chile. Adding meat was +$3.75 and a corn tortilla +$1, which felt nickel and dimed. Overall, not great. Finally, there was no kids menu, which stinks for families. We ended up having to get our daughter a cheese quesadilla, which was the only thing on the menu that felt kid friendly. Surprisingly, the quesadilla was better than our meal as they smothered it in butter. All in all, there’s better NM restaurants out there.
